[TV/MOVIES] “Peeples” Funny But Not Original (Review)

A remix of the Meet The Parents series, Peeples is actually good and probably one of the funniest films I’ve seen all year.

Contrary to what some folks are thinking, Peeples was not written nor directed by Tyler Perry. The film was written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism (ATL & Drumline) and co-produced by Perry.

The film centers around the Peeples, a well-to-do family celebrating Moby Dick Day in the Hamptons when their celebration is interrupted by their daughter Grace’s (Kerry Washington) fiance Wade (Craig Robinson).  Wade crashes the weekend to meet her parents and to propose to her. Upon arriving Wade discovers that Grace has never mentioned him to her family.

Folks familiar with the Meet The Parents films will notice a few similarities which leads me to believe that this movie is not the most original one I’ve seen yet it is well put together. One of the similarities that stood out included the idea of “The Circle Of Trust” that Robert Deniro‘s character in the “Meet The Parents” series is constantly referring to yet never follows himself.

Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington, David Allen Grier, Tyler James Williams are pretty good in this film.

If you’re looking for a Tyler Perry-“ish” film this aint the one. If you’re looking for a family film for you and your young kids this aint the one. If you’re looking a funny film to see with your friends and older family members this is the one for you.
